Limited Time Magic Easter Egg Hunt at Disney California Adventure
Beginning this morning (Monday, March 18) through next Sunday, March 24, Disney California Adventure park hosts an Easter egg hunt. This is a special, Limited Time Magic opportunity to search for hidden "eggs." To participate in this Easter egg hunt, you must purchase a special park map and sticker set.
A map package contain 10 egg-shaped stickers, each representing a different character-themed egg located throughout the park. When you find one of these special hidden eggs, you apply the corresponding sticker to the egg's location on the map. After completing the egg hunt, you return the map to the redemption location at Elias & Co. to receive a special gift box containing two Vinylmation key rings (a $12.95 value). Each map set costs $4.95 (plus tax) and is available at Elias & Co., Oswald's, Radiator Springs Curios, Tower Hotel Gifts, and Treasures in Paradise. There is no discount for annual passports, however you can still turn in your map for the Vinylmation key ring set even if you do not find all 10 Easter egg locations.
Celebrate Greek culture with special food and entertainment
The Disneyland Resort celebrates Greek culture with "OPA! A celebration of Greece" in the last weekend of May, from May 25 to 27. While strangely not a Limited Time Magic promotion, the celebration includes events at both Disneyland and DCA parks. Each day of the event, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Disney hosts special events, including music, entertainment, food, and appearances by celebrity chef Argiro Barbarigou and winemaker Christina Boutari. The various event activities include the following at both parks:
Disneyland, in the "it's a small world" mall:
- Olympics training with Hercules – learn techniques for events such as the discus, javelin and leaping from Hercules himself.
- Atmosphere entertainment – "The Citizens of Greece" educate, philosophize, and guide guests through the festivities.
- Live performances from Greek musicians and dancers
- Special Greek food offerings – at the Carnation Cafe, Redd Rockett's Pizza Port and special food carts.
Disney California Adventure, in the Paradise Garden:
- Greek wine tastings
- Live performances from Greek musicians
- Kalamatiano line dances
- Atmosphere entertainment – "The Citizens of Greece" educate, philosophize, and guide guests through the festivities.
- Special Greek food offerings – at Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta, Paradise Garden Grill and special food carts.
Mickey Mouse is also scheduled to appear dressed in traditional fustanella attire.
On the second day of the event, May 26, celebrity chef Argiro Barbarigou and winemaker Christina Boutari appear at DCA's Golden Vine Winery. To attend this event, you must make a reservation and purchase tickets in advance beginning next Monday, March 25. Disney has not yet released pricing or further details about this event.
"Disneyland: The Way We Were" photographic tour with Chief Archivist Emeritus Dave Smith
Disney Legend and Chief Archivist Emeritus, Walt Disney Archives, Dave Smith takes annual passholders on a photographic journey back in time to examine the history of Disneyland during a special event this Friday, March 22, at the Main Street U.S.A. Opera House at 5:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m.
Smith joined the Walt Disney Company as the director, and original founder, of the Walt Disney Archives when the division was established on June 22, 1970. He continued to work at the Walt Disney Archives until his retirement in 2010.
Passholders who wish to attend this one-of-a-kind event must register in person in front of the Main Street U.S.A. Opera House, beginning at 11:30 a.m. on the morning of the event. Everyone in your party must be present, and be a valid annual passholder (ages 3 and older); non-passholder guests are not permitted, and you may be asked to show a photo ID. Once registered, you receive a wristband that grants you admission to one of the two presentations later in the evening. The Main Street, U.S.A. Opera House will open 15 minutes prior to each of the event start times, and late arrivals are not admitted.
Tomorrowland Starcade reopens with over two-dozen vintage arcade games
The Tomorrowland Starcade quietly reopened this past weekend featuring 26 vintage arcade games, two pinball machines, and a air hockey table. The games are located in the downstairs portion of the Starcade, which recently housed the Wreck it Ralph meet-and-greet as well as Fix-it Felix arcade games. The area still serves as part of the Startrader merchandise shop, however it now also contains the arcade games. The upstairs portion of the Starcade remains unused.

The arcade games, which feature titles such as PacMan, Space Invaders, Missile Command, TRON, and Track & Field, were most recently part of the very popular Flynn's Arcade in ElecTRONica. However, Flynn's Arcade was themed specifically with '80s music and neon.
The addition of the arcade games in the Startrader feels a bit thrown together. Most of the games are concentrated to the rear of the building, but a few can be found in and around the various merchandise displays. Also, one must question how vintage, circa 1980s arcade games fit into a land themed to tomorrow. Still, following years of absence, it is nice to see arcade games back in use at the Tomorrowland Starcade. Hopefully the area will receive some attention if the games prove to be successful.
Get ready for MouseAdventure Musical
Tune up your instruments and get the band together because our next event, MouseAdventure Musical, is scheduled for Sunday, May 19, and will lead you on a music appreciation tour of the Disneyland Resort!
Basic Division (competitive) – Disneyland Park ($155 per team)
The competitive Basic division provides a series of quests and challenges to be solved throughout Disneyland park, with prizes going to the best new, returning, and family teams.
Basic registration is $155 per team, which includes admission to our post-event award ceremony, but does not include theme park admission. Each player on your team needs admission into Disneyland on Sunday, May 19.
Advanced Division (competitive) – Disneyland Resort ($175 per team)
If you crave even more MouseAdventure, the Advanced division includes all of the Basic division quests—many at a more difficult level—plus a few challenges throughout the rest of the Disneyland Resort, including Disney California Adventure park and Downtown Disney. Prizes are awarded both to the best new and returning teams.
Advanced registration is $175 per team, which includes admission to our post-event award ceremony, but does not include theme park admission. Each player on your team needs admission into both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks on Sunday, May 19.
Day at the Park (non-competitive) – Disney California Adventure ($90 per team)
Are you a brand-new team wanting to get taste of MouseAdventure or a returning team wishing to play without the stress of competition? Join us for some fun playing a sampling of past quests in Disney California Adventure park. Teams play only for bragging rights and there is no post-event award ceremony—we post the results on the website about a week after the event. The Day at the Park event features an extended sign-in period with a pre-game new-player orientation session. Day at the Park teams are also eligible to participate in the team T-shirt contest before the start of the competitive events.
Day at the Park registration is $90 per team, which does not include theme park admission. Each player on your team needs admission into Disney California Adventure on Sunday, May 19.
Registration for all divisions opens at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday, March 19 online at MouseAdventure.com and closes on Friday, May 3, or whenever the divisions sell out. Space for each division is extremely limited (and historically, some categories have sold out very quickly). Players must be at least 6 years old and one player on each team must be at least 18 years old.

…Beginning Saturday, March 23, Disneyland is changing a policy dictating the minimum age for a minor to enter the park alone as 14 years old; starting this Saturday, March 23, those who are younger will have to be accompanied by another person who is at least 14 years old. Disneyland's previous policy was 8 years old (those who were younger were required to be accompanied by a person age 14 or older). This new policy is being standardized throughout all U.S. Disney theme parks, and will most likely to impact parents with children who are 12 or 13, since they may have entered the parks by themselves (for example, if the parents are in Disneyland and the older kids wanted to hop over to DCA).
…A few months ago, Walt Disney World held a Limited Time Magic event where "Long Lost Disney Friends"—rarely seen Disney characters—made appearances in the park. Through this Thursday, March 21, Disney is asking for your vote on which rarely seen Disney characters you would like to see make an appearance for the upcoming Disneyland "Long Lost Friends" week. Choices include Three Little Pigs, Scrooge McDuck and Ludwig VonDrake, Merlin, Clarabelle Cow, and many more.
… The Fantasyland Theater will soon host a new stage show, Mickey and the Magical Map. A few weeks ago, we gave you some insight on what to expect when the stage show debuts this summer, and now we have the opening date. Mickey and the Magical Map opens at Disneyland on May 25, 2013.

…Spring is quickly approaching, and a new Disneyland Hotel discount has been announced. With the new deal, guests can save up to 20 percent on a two-night stay most Sunday through Thursday nights when booked through April 27. There is also a 15 percent discount available on a two-night stays most Friday and Saturday nights, April 7 through May 22. If you are an Annual Passholder, Disney is also offering a 20 percent discount with a two-night stay (most Sunday through Thursdays) or a 15 percent discount (weekend stays). The Annual Passholder discount also includes a premium character dining experience package. Valid dates are April 7 through May 22. - Main Street Train Station – closed through March 28 for refurbishment. The Disneyland Railroad is operational during this time, but will bypass the Main Street Station.

Resort Events

2013- Grad Nite events – This party for high school seniors graduating in 2013 will be held on 22 dates in 2013: May 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 31; June 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21. The 2013 event includes admission to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park during regular operating hours, and a private party in Disneyland Park after the park closes to the public for the night.
- D23 Expo – August 9–11. Tickets for the three-day convention are now on sale.
- Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend (sold out) – August 30 through September 1 at the Disneyland Resort. Spaces may still be available through charity teams and select travel agencies.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Other Discounts
Military 3-Day Park Hopper Discount – active and retired U.S. military can now purchase up to six 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hoppers at the discounted price of $125 each, a 50 percent savings off the regular adult price. The tickets may be used through September 28, 2013 with block-out days from March 25 through April 5, and July 4.
Valid only for active duty or retired U.S. Military, including the National Guard, Reservists, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Valid and active U.S. Military (or Military spouse) ID required for purchase and admission. Limited to one (1) purchase of up to six (6) tickets per valid ID and Military member (or spouse) must accompany the persons using these tickets for Theme Park admission.
Annual Passholder offers – Disneyland has once again extended the 20 percent merchandise discount offered to Premium annual passholders. The discount is now valid through December 31, 2013.
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and generally can not be combined—you must choose one of the eligible offers. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.
Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel.
Disney Visa – cardholders have access to a private character meet-and-greet photo opportunity at Disney California Adventure, and receive one free 5x7 photograph per visit. Cardholders also receive 10 percent off qualifying merchandise purchases of $50 or more from Disney-operated retail stores, 10 percent off at selected Disneyland Resort restaurants, (Big Thunder Ranch, River Belle Terrace, French Market, Cocina Cucamonga, Steakhouse 55, PCH Grill and Storyteller's Café), and 20 percent off the "Welcome to Disneyland," "A Walk in Walt's Footsteps," and "Discover the Magic" guided tours. Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days), and a 10 percent discount on retail purchases. This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club as of March 31, 2012. If you are already a Safari Club member, you can migrate your membership to the new Landry's Select Club at no charge, and start to earn points in the new program. The new Select Club eliminated the entree discount and free appetizer offer that was included with the Safari Club, replacing them with a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. If you are not yet a member of either the Safari Club or the Landry's Select Club, you can pre-purchase your membership before your trip. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 reward.
ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link).
