Electrical extension
April Fool's Day is said to be the one day a year when people question things they read online, yet few people even raised a skeptical eyebrow when Disney officially announced Saturday morning that the Main Street Electrical Parade will run through the end of the peak summer season. The parade that never seems to truly glow away forever was slated to end its "limited-time" return engagement on Sunday, June 18, but was extended "by popular demand."
The "encore performances" are now scheduled through August 20, 2017.
Disney earlier tipped its hand to the pending announcement late last month when the phrase "through June 18" was removed from some online materials promoting the parade. In the days before the Disney Parks Blog confirmed the extension, the Disneyland website briefly displayed the August 20 date, and then reverted back to showing the parade ending on June 18.

Disney has not said when or whether the Paint the Night parade might return to Disneyland, or what the future holds for the Main Street Electrical Parade after (or if) it takes final bows this summer. The Paint the Night parade is no longer listed on the official Parades at Disneyland Resort webpage, either as "coming soon" or "returning later."
According to that site, the Pixar Play Parade is now scheduled to return to Disney California Adventure on Friday, May 12.
Save the date as CHOC Walk moves to August
The CHOC Walk in the Park has traditionally happened on the first Sunday in October. Due to scheduling issues last year, this fundraiser for Children's Hospital of Orange County was held at the end of the month in 2016. This year, it moves considerably forward, to Sunday, August 27, 2017.
The annual event is the largest fundraiser for the hospital, and draws thousands of people to the Disneyland Resort during the pre-dawn hours for a (3.1-mile) 5K walk through Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Registration opens in May, and Team MousePlanet will return for our 10th year.
Thanks to the efforts and generosity of our readers, Team MousePlanet has raised over $62,000 for CHOC Children's since 2008. Will invite all MousePlanet readers, friends, and family to join us at the 2017 walk, as we celebrate a decade of giving. We will share registration information as soon as we have it.
runDisney drops volunteers from Anaheim events
We reported yesterday that runDisney has contracted with two staffing agencies to recruit and hire the hundreds of temporary workers needed to staff running events at the Disneyland Resort, starting with the upcoming Tinker Bell Half Marathon weekend in May. This ends a decade-long practice of using unpaid volunteers to staff the West Coast events. runDisney will continue to use volunteers to staff races at the Walt Disney World in Florida.
Disney says the change was made, "in order to continue to provide the world-class experience our race participants have come to expect." A Disney spokesperson tells MousePlanet that that the staffing agencies were brought on to help handle the specific challenges faced by organizers of the Anaheim-based races, which take place on both Disney property and city streets, and require a greater level of coordination with surrounding cities and outside agencies.
These temporary workers will receive $13 per hour, about 20 percent more than the current minimum wage in California. Because these workers will be compensated monetarily, they will not receive complimentary park admission, a benefit given to volunteers in recognition of their time.

Construction Land
This week we take a look at the Rivers of America, thanks in part to a new walkway that has opened in Critter Country. The path currently leads only to the lower level of the Hungry Bear Restaurant, providing access to the lower-level bathrooms, but in the future may continue just around the river bend.

The buildings in Star Wars Land continue to grow, though it's still impossible to tell what goes where without a map. The first ride building has expanded so much the AT-AT units now appear to be in the center of the structure.
Over at Disney California Adventure, it appears testing has begun on the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction, as the doors of one elevator shaft were observed opening and closing last week, and the ride vehicle was visible inside the opening.
This and that…
...Disneyland's fudge Easter eggs are a popular treat among Disneyland regulars, but probably do not have the same fame and lines of customers as the fresh-made candy canes because Food Network has yet to run a special on them. The eggs are made at the Candy Palace on Main Street, and come in varieties with and without nuts.
...Disney's Egg-stravaganza promotion runs through Easter Sunday, April 16. A dozen oversized eggs decorated with images of Disney characters are placed around each of three hunt locations, Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney. Egg hunters first purchase a special map and stickers ($5.99) to help locate these eggs, and then place the stickers in the corresponding spots on the map.
Once complete, participants return the map to a redemption location to claim their prize—a two-inch-tall "egg" decorated to resemble a Disney character. In addition to the six new character designs created for the 2017 promotion, customers can also choose from the 6 egg designs from the 2016 promotion, subject to availability.
In addition to the 12 eggs available as prizes in the Egg-stravaganza promotion, Disney released a set of Star Wars eggs available for purchase at Tomorrowland's Star Trader store. The set is $9.99, with a limit of one set per person. There is also an exclusive passholder pin available as part of the promotion.

- Disney Junior – Live on Stage! closes for update on April 9. The new show is set to debut May 26.
- Corn Dog Castle – closes April 17 – May 4 for refurbishment.
Disneyland Resort
- House of Blues Anaheim – closed. The 23,000-square-foot restaurant and concert venue has been demolished. A new Splitsville Lanes is scheduled to open on the site in late 2017.
Disneyland Resort Hotels
- Grand Californian Hotel Pools – closed through spring 2017. All three of the pools at the hotel will be closed for refurbishment, including the Redwood Pool and water slide, the Fountain Pool, and the Mariposa Pool. The cabanas will also close during this time. During the refurbishment, which is expected to last at least through March, people staying at the Grand Californian Hotel can use the pool facilities at the Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier Hotel.
- Pinocchio's Workshop – closed. No reopening date available.

- 2017 Grad Nites – May 5, 6, 10, 17, 19, 20, 24, 30, and 31; June 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 14, 16, and 17.
- 2017 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend – May 11–14. This event happens over Mother's Day weekend. Registration is still open for some events via the runDisney website.

- Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend – August 31 through September 3. This event adds to the Labor Day weekend crowds. Registration is still open for some events via the runDisney website.
- Gay Days at Disneyland (unofficial event) – October 6–8. More information on the event website.
- Dapper Day Fall Outing to Disneyland (unofficial event) – Sunday, November 5. More information at the event website. This popular event grows larger each year, so it's worth making note of the date if you plan to visit the park during this weekend.
- Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend – November 9–12. This event adds to the Veteran's Day weekend crowds. Registration is still open for some events via the runDisney website.
2018
- Star Wars – The Light Side Half Marathon Weekend – January 11–14, 2018. Registration has been delayed, and will open at a later, unspecified date.
School Holidays
Notable school holidays that may impact park attendance. If you know of any other school holidays that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).
2017
- Spring Break – Through April 29. The four-week period during which most local schools will observe a one-week spring holiday. Based on the blockout dates of the Southern California discount tickets, Disney expects the largest crowds April 9–23.
- Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. "Utah Escapes to Anaheim") – October 19–20. Expect large attendance levels October 19–22 as Utah students and families take advantage of a 4-day weekend created by their school's participation in a state education convention. Not all Utah schools or teachers close for or attend UEA, but the impact on the Resort is usually noticeable enough to mention.
- Nevada Day – October 28. Nevada schools will be closed on Friday, October 28 to observe Nevada Day, creating a three-day weekend.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

Three Day Tickets |
The 3-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 25, 2017. You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $149 for ages 3 and up. You can also upgrade this ticket to a 3-Day Park Hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $40, a savings of up to $106 compared to the box office price of a three-day park-hopper ticket. If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If purchasing at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature. There is no "fuse" on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May to use the second (or third) admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by May 22, 2017. 2017 Military Salute Offer Disney released details of its 2017 Military Salute offer for Disneyland and Walt Disney World last October, and the tickets are valid January 1 through April 8 and April 24 through December 19, 2017. At the time we first shared details of the offer, we did not know about (or Disney had not announced) a special PhotoPass promotion also available to military personnel. Through December 19, 2017, active and retired U.S. military personnel who are eligible for the Military Salute offer can also purchase the Disney PhotoPass Collection for $49, a discount of 50% over the usual $99 price. The Disney PhotoPass Collection includes digital downloads of all available PhotoPass photos linked to your account, a voucher for a dining print package and a Disneyland Resort Gallery Disc with 350 high-resolution professional photos from around Disneyland Resort. Southern California CityPASS |
Southern California CityPASS ($346/$314) – includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (including one early-entry day), a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego, and a one-day admission to LEGOLAND California. The CityPASS expires 14 days after first use at any location, and the first use must occur by December 31, 2017. Purchase CityPASS through the Disneyland website or on-site at the ticket booths of Disneyland Resort or the other theme parks included in the pass. You can also purchase directly from the CityPASS website, though a shipping charge may apply depending on how quickly you need the ticket. When you purchase the CityPASS, you have the option of adding a one-day admission to either San Diego Zoo or San Diego Safari Park for an extra $42/$34. Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks.
