Main Street Electrical Parade returns Friday

Disneyland's beloved Main Street Electrical Parade returns to the park this Friday, August 2 for another "limited engagement" currently scheduled to end on September 30, 2019. The parade kicks off at 8:45 p.m. Friday night, with a second performance at 10:45 p.m.

Everyone's favorite electric dragon returns to Disneyland this Friday, August 2. MousePlanet file photo.

At this time, Disney still hasn't announced any special dining packages for this parade. The Plaza Inn did offer a meal package with reserved viewing of Mickey's Soundsational Parade, and we expected a similar offering for the Main Street Electrical Parade.

The final performance of Mickey and Friends Band-Tastic Cavalcade, the character-filled processional Disneyland used as a filler between the end of Mickey's Soundsational Parade on July 17 and the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade this week, is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 1. As of Friday, neither Disneyland nor Disney California Adventure will offer a daytime parade.

Holidays at the Disneyland Resort

Disney announced last week that the Holidays at the Disneyland Resort will run November 8, 2019 through January 6, 2020, with decorations throughout both parks and the Resort district.

Visitors can celebrate the Holidays at the Disneyland Resort November 8 through January 6, 2020. MousePlanet file photo.

This year's celebration features a return of World of Color – Season of Light at Disney California Adventure, the return of the Festival of Holidays and Disney ¡Viva Navidad  attraction overlays in Cars Land, and a meet-and-greet with Santa in the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail.

Over at Disneyland, all of the classics return for 2019, including the Believe in Holiday Magic fireworks show, Sleeping Beauty Winter Castle, "A Christmas Fantasy Parade," the "it's a small world holiday," and Haunted Mansion Holiday attraction overlays.

As with 2018, it looks like the Jingle Cruise overlay won't return this year, and there's been nothing to indicate if we'll see any sort of holiday decorations on Batuu.

Advance reservations now available for Galaxy's Edge experiences

Batuu-bound visitors can now book reservations for Oga’s Cantina and Savi’s Workshop in the Black Spire Outpost at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge up to 14 days in advance, making it easier to plan a trip to the Black Spire Outpost.

It's now easier to plan a visit to Oga's Cantina, as visitors can make reservations up 14 days in advance. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.

Disney made the change last week, replacing a system where visitors had to log in the morning of their Disneyland visit to book a same-day reservation. A Disney spokesperson says the plan is to eventually move to the same 60-day advance reservation system used for most other venues.

Oogie Boogie Bash update

Oogie Boogie Bash is an after-hours event debuting at Disney California Adventure this year and taking the place of the popular Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland. Like Mickey's Halloween Party, Oogie Boogie Bash offers Disney fans young and old the opportunity to dress up and experience trick-or-treat stations, themed entertainment, the debut of the Frightfully Fun Parade and Ride of the Headless Horseman at Disney California Adventure, and to meet Disney characters in their Halloween finery.

One Oogie Boogie Bash event is sold out, but there are 19 more events on the calendar. MousePlanet file photo.

The party takes place on 20 nights in September and October, and requires a separate event ticket to attend. One event night has now sold out, and additional nights will follow as vacation planners finalize their selections and book their tickets.

  • Sold out – September 26
  • Available – September 17, 19, 22, 24, 29; October 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 27, 29, 31

In 2018, all Mickey's Halloween Party event nights sold out by September 25, though it's hard to know how sales for this new event will compare in the first year.

Tickets for Oogie Boogie Bash start at $110, with Halloween night tickets at $145 per person (which is up $15 from 2018). You can buy tickets from the Disneyland website, by calling (714) 781-4636, or in person at a Disneyland Resort ticket booth.

But what happens if you had your heart (and vacation plans) set on attending a specific, sold-out night? Before you turn to Craigslist, StubHub, or eBay (all of which bring with them the very high risk of being defrauded), here are official ways you may still be able to buy legitimate party tickets directly from Disney:

  • Call the Disneyland Resort and order tickets by phone – a limited number of tickets may be available by phone for events that are sold out on line. Call (714) 781-4636 to purchase by phone. Expect to wait on hold for at least 10 minutes.
  • Visit Disneyland and purchase tickets in person – a limited number of tickets may be available at the Disneyland ticket booths for events that are sold out on line. However, if you tried to purchase tickets by phone and the night you wanted was sold out, they will not be available at the ticket booths.
  • Disneyland Resort Hotels – if you are a guest staying at one of the three Disney-owned hotels (Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel, or Grand Californian Hotel), check with your hotel desk the morning of the event to see if they have tickets available for purchase. In past years, a small number of tickets were reserved for Disneyland Resort Hotel guests, and were released for sale at 5:30 a.m. the morning of each party. Officially, these tickets are intended only for concierge-level guests, but we've heard conflicting stories about that, and it seems some guests in standard rooms have been allowed to buy the tickets as well. If you're already staying on property, it doesn't hurt to ask. These tickets sell out very quickly, so don't wait until the party starts to try to make your purchase.
  • Friends or family –if friends/family already have tickets, they may be able to purchase additional tickets the day of the party. Again, a small number of tickets are reserved for same-day sales to help accommodate ticket holders who may have miscounted how many they need, or who had friends/family unexpectedly join them. As with the tickets reserved for hotel guests, these are very limited, and go on sale as soon as the ticket booths open in the morning. If at all possible, get there first thing in the morning to increase your chance of getting tickets. You must have the other event tickets with you the cast member needs to see them, and cannot just trust your word that "so-and-so already has tickets."

Prepare for the return of the Passholders

If you have enjoyed the relatively low crowds at Disneyland this summer, you have a few more weeks before it all changes. Three levels of Disneyland Resort annual passholder have been blocked from visiting one or both parks for most of the summer, but those restrictions begin to lift in about three weeks.

The end of summer means the return of Disneyland Resort passholders. MousePlanet file photo.

These "back to park" days can bring extra traffic to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, as passholders flock to the parks to see what has changed since they last visited in May or June. The effect is especially noticeable on Friday nights and weekends. Here are the dates you can expect extra passholder traffic as summer draws to an end.

Final day for CHOC Walk early registration

The 2019 CHOC Walk is around the corner, and today is the last day to register at the $85 "early bird" rate. Walkers who register on or after Tuesday, July 30 will pay a fee of $95 at the time of registration to secure their place at the walk.

Come CHOC Walk with Team MousePlanet

Registration is now officially open for the 2019 CHOC Walk in the Park, to be held Sunday, August 11 at the Disneyland Resort.

Team MousePlanet will return for our 12th consecutive walk to support Children's Hospital Orange County. Thanks to the efforts and generosity of our readers, Team MousePlanet has raised over $75,000 for CHOC since 2008. We invite MousePlanet readers, friends, and family members to join our team for the event.

When you register for the event, you can opt to donate directly or fundraise the registration fee.

  • Early Registration – walkers can opt to pay nothing at the time of registration, but must donate or fundraise a minimum of $85 by Monday, July 29 to participate.
  • Late Registration – walkers pay a fee of $95 at the time of registration to secure their place at the walk.

Why Join Team MousePlanet?

COMMUNITY! Walking with Team MousePlanet is a great way to spend a morning with MousePlanet staff and readers, all while raising money for a great cause. Stay after the walk and enjoy Disneyland with your fellow Disney fans.

CONVENIENCE! If you register during Early registration and meet your fundraising goal, Team MousePlanet will handle check-in for you. No need to drive to check in the week before the walk to collect your wristband and T-shirt. You need only meet us in Downtown Disney the morning of the walk to collect your goodies, then head right into Disneyland to start the walk.

If you prefer to have your shirt and wristband before the walk (some people like to personalize them), there is an option to have those items shipped to you.

The deadline to join Team MousePlanet and meet the $85 fundraising requirement in order for us to handle check-in for walkers is Monday, August 5. We still welcome those who register after this date, but they must handle their own check-in.

In addition to helping support an outstanding local charity, one of the benefits of participating in the CHOC Walk is the opportunity to purchase specially priced Disneyland tickets to use in the weeks after the walk. Walkers who meet the $85 fund-raising minimum can purchase a 1-Day 1-Park Disneyland Resort ticket for $67 (reg. $122 to 149), or a Disneyland Resort 1-Day Park Hopper ticket for $93 (reg. $172 to 199). This is a discount of up to $106 off the ticket booth price of these tickets.

The tickets can ONLY be purchased by registered walkers in person at the Disneyland Resort on the day of the walk. You must present your CHOC Walk in the Park wristband to a Disneyland Resort Ticket Booth to purchase the discounted tickets.

NEW FOR 2019: A maximum of one ticket may be purchased per wristband.

The tickets are valid starting Sunday, August 11, 2019, and must be used by September 10, 2019. The tickets are not valid August 31 through September 3, 2019.

2020
  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – opens Friday, January 17, 2020.
  • Dapper Day Spring Outing (unofficial event) – Sunday, April 19. More information on the event website.
  • Grad Nites – May 8, 9, 15, 16, 20, 26, 27, 29, and 30; June 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 12, and 13

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts and Promotions

Disneyland prices as of January 6, 2019.

Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.

Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Everyone

Purchase with purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced-price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.

Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.

Character dining vouchers – Disneyland is no longer offering tickets or vouchers to be pre-purchased for Character Dining. You may still make reservations 60 days in advance with payment due at the restaurant.

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct.

Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions. Entertainment schedule: Go directly to the Disneyland Resort schedule for this week at Disneyland.com here.

The Seasons calendar is published on the Disneyland website for the next eight to 11 months.
