Countdown to the Food & Wine Festival
Disney has released the themes and menus for each of the eight Festival Marketplace booths of the 2016 Food & Wine Festival. Two of the booths (The Vineyard and The Brewhouse) have only wine or beer offerings, but the remaining six locations each have two or three items on their tasting menu. In addition, several DCA restaurants will also offer special menu items during the festival.
Some additional information was released in the Disney Parks Blog posting, including that some of the Festival Marketplace booths will be open Mondays through Thursdays, as well as weekends. The Celebrity Kitchen events are hosted only on Saturdays during the festival, and the beverage seminars are scheduled only for Fridays through Sundays throughout the event. It's encouraging to see that at least some of the food booths will be open during the weekdays, and we're sure the event's production team will look closely at these sales figures when they decide whether or not to expand the offerings next year.
Disney did not release pricing for these menu items, but we will update as soon as the Festival opens on April 1.

You've just entered... the Rumor Zone
As a matter of practice we don't tend to discuss rumors posted by other sites, but this particular story has gone viral in the Disney community over the past 48 hours and I'm including it here for reasons I'll get to in a moment.
On Saturday, WDWMagic.com member WDW1974 posted the bold claim that Disney is currently planning a Guardians of the Galaxy overlay for the Tower of Terror attractions at both Disney California Adventure and Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida.
According to his theory, filled in over a few posts, the Florida version may be just a temporary overlay, like the holiday overlays of Haunted Mansion and "it's a small world" at Disneyland. The complicated agreement regarding the use of Marvel characters in the various Disney and Universal parks in Orlando is too convoluted to get into in this article, but the gist is that Disney can't build a Captain America ride in Florida, or even allow a Monorail bearing the images of Marvel characters transit the Epcot loop. As such, and without a large Marvel presence in the pipeline, such an overlay would likely only be used for promotional purposes to generate excitement about Hollywood Studios during a time when so very much of the park is closed due to construction of Star Wars Land.
However, WDW1974 claims the plan for California is to permanently convert the attraction to a Guardians of the Galaxy theme, and use the newly reimagined ride as the gateway to and icon of a whole collection (they stop short of calling it a land) of Marvel-themed attractions to be built in the last remaining bit of Disneyland's former parking lot. They claim the rides will include a Captain America-themed roller coaster, said to be on hold due to Shanghai-related budget cuts.
Their theory is that the Hollywood Tower Hotel would be restaged as the mansion/museum of The Collector, a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (portrayed by Benicio del Toro in Guardians of the Galaxy). They had no theory about if/how the elevators would be explained in such a scenario.
The rumored timeline for this project, at least in California? Summer 2017. This would fit in nicely with the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the sequel set to open May 5, 2017.
As this rumor spread around the Disney community this weekend, the reaction was overwhelmingly negative, in a way I haven't seen since Light Magic took to the streets of Main Street, U.S.A. nearly two decades ago. It's the reaction I would expect were Disneyland to announce a Wreck-it Ralph overlay for the Matterhorn Bobsleds: it just doesn't make sense.
In fact, were the rumor posted by any but a handful of people in the Disney fan community it might have been rejected out of hand, because it just seems—well, ridiculous. The Guardians of the Galaxy have no connection to 1930s Hollywood, and it's difficult to imagine how Imagineering is going to craft that story. But WDW1974 has a repuatation for being right a great deal of the time, and appears to have well-placed sources who are willing to talk shop before Disney probably wants them to.
Is this really happening? I can't say for sure, but I'm depressingly certain there's more to this story than just blue sky. DCA's version of the Tower of Terror doesn't hold a candle to the Walt Disney World original, and I would not be too upset if Disney were to just tear it out and build a new Guardians of the Galaxy ride to anchor a new Marvel Land. Forcing an ill-fitting overlay onto the California ride is one story; touching the Florida version, on the other hand, would be a travesty.
Constructionland
It will likely be months before any vertical construction begins in the new Star Wars Land footprint, but work continues on the site and all around the Rivers of America. It will be interesting to look back in a few weeks and compare photos to see how the berm around the park has changed.

MouseAdventure Day at the Park
Due to high demand for the competitive version that sold out in hours, MouseAdventure is happy to announce a Day at the Park version of the spring MouseAdventure in Wonderland game at Disneyland on April 17. If you missed out on the original registration, or if you're interested in a more low-key version of the traditional event, this is for you.
Day at the Park is also an excellent way for new players to try out the game in a non-competitive environment with plenty of support from the crew and staff. Teams will receive their quests all at once and may proceed to solve them in any order over the course of the day. Your adventure will kick off from Downtown Disney and take place within Disneyland Park.
In order to ensure sufficient staff support for Day at the Park, registration is extremely limited. Make sure to sign up as soon as possible to secure a place for your team. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m. (PDT) on Tuesday, March 22 at www.mouseadventure.com.
Registration for the Day at the Park Division is $110 per team. Each player will need admission to Disneyland Park on Sunday, April 17.
This and that...
...Citing "overwhelming support from fans around the globe," the Disneyland Resort last week announced they had doubled the $1 million donation promised to the Make-A-Wish Foundation as part of the "Share Your Ears" social media campaign. The $2 million donation was presented in a ceremony in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle last Monday.
...The Orange County Register reports that Disneyland has added cushions to the seats of the Matterhorn Bobsleds, in an attempt to reduce complaints about the rough ride in the new sleds.
...This is the last week to purchase maps in the 2016 Egg-Stravaganza promotion.

- "Use It or Lose It" weekend – January 28–29, 2017. Our designation for the final weekend of January, which marks the deadline for cast members, community groups, and Club 33 members to use their remaining complementary admission tickets from the 2016 allocation.
- 2017 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend – May 11–14, 2017. Registration opens September 20, 2016.
We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

School Holidays

2016
- Spring Break(s) – March 14 – April 8. Most local schools are closed one week during this period. Expect the majority of school closures—and crowds—the weeks immediately before and after Easter Sunday, March 27.
- Local School Holiday – Monday, March 28. Most local schools not already on Spring Break will be closed for Cesar Chavez Day.
- Nevada Day (observed) – Friday, October 28. A school holiday for our neighbors to the northeast creates a 3-day weekend and usually adds to the Halloween weekend crowds. Some Nevada schools take the entire week off as a Fall Break.
- Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. "Utah Escapes to Anaheim") – October 20–21. Expect holiday-level crowds October 19–24 as Utah students and families take advantage of a Fall Break scheduled around an annual state education convention. Not all Utah schools close for UEA, but the impact on the resort is significant enough to mention.
- Thanksgiving Break – November 21–25. Many local schools close for the entire week of Thanksgiving.
- Winter Break – December 19, 2016 – January 6, 2017. Most schools close only two of these three weeks, but some districts close all three weeks due to the Saturday Christmas.

Egg-stravaganza 2016 Egg-stravaganza returns for the fourth time March 2 through 27. New for 2016, the egg hunt has expanded to Downtown Disney, in addition to hunts inside both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. A dozen oversized eggs decorated with images of Disney characters will be placed around each of the three hunt locations. Egg hunters first purchase a special map and stickers to help locate these eggs, and then place the stickers in the corresponding spots on the map. The maps are $5.95 plus tax (a $1 increase from 2015), and no discounts apply. Maps are sold at the following locations:
Once complete, participants return the map to a redemption location to claim their prize—one of six different two-inch-tall "eggs" featuring all-new character designs for the 2016 promotion. Redemption centers are located at Elias & Company at Disney California Adventure, Disney Showcase in Disneyland, and World of Disney in Downtown Disney. If you are only in it for the eggs, you don't need to complete the egg hunt to claim your prize—just buy your map at a redemption center and receive your egg. New this year, Disney allows egg hunters to choose which of the six egg designs they would like as their gift – Mickey, Minnie, Stitch, Cheshire Cat, Woody or Jessie. You can collect all six, while supplies last. |

Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

2016 Disney Military Promotional 3 – Day Park Hopper Ticket ($143) Through December 16, 2016, active and retired U.S. military personnel (including active and retired members of the United States Coast Guard, National Guard and Reservists) or their spouses can purchase the Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $143 each [an increase of $11 from the 2014-2015 offer]. Disneyland tickets may be used January 3, 2016, through December 19, 2016, except that the tickets may not be used March 20 through April 1, 2016. Active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets for themselves and up to five additional family members or friends. No more than six Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased by any eligible member of the U.S. military (or spouse) pursuant to this offer. 2016 Southern California CityPASS ($329/$294) – includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (including one early-entry day), a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego, and a one-day admission to LEGOLAND California. The CityPASS expires 14 days after first use at any location, and the first use must occur by December 31, 2016. Purchase CityPASS through the Disneyland website or on-site at the ticket booths of Disneyland Resort or the other theme parks included in the pass. You can also purchase directly from the CityPASS website, though a shipping charge may apply depending on how quickly you need the ticket. When you purchase the CityPASS, you have the option of adding a one-day admission to either San Diego Zoo or San Diego Safari Park for an extra $38/$30. Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location. Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:
Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit. ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. While I love the idea of a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction, I agree that rebranding the Tower of Terror would be a terrible idea. It is one of the most perfectly themed attractions at any Disney park, and there's just no way they could do something that would be anywhere near as good, theming-wise.
If there were ever a concept for a third gate, it would be a dedicated Marvel park. It's not going to happen anytime soon (thanks to Shanghai, mainly), but it's just too expansive to be relegated to a very small corner of DCA.
A Guardian of the Galaxy Tower of Terror??? Lame. It has the perfect set up as it is. The Twilight Zone theming couldn't be better. #1, taking it down to make a Marvel ride would be completely stupid. #2, changing it to fit a Marvel theme would be even worse! I'm with David - if they want to do Marvel right, open a third gate. I'm still of the belief that's what they should've done with Star Wars Land. Star Wars could be an entire theme park, but no, no, let's shove an extra 10K people into DL.
If they want to bump up ridership to Tower of Terror in DCA - how about turning on the randomizer? I thought it was designed/built so that they could do that, yet they never have!
There is a lot of backstage area out that way to put in a Marvel expansion. If they were going to do that I would tear down TOT instead of changing it. I am not a Marvel fan so personally I would not put it in any park but it would probably make sense to put it in DCA since DL will have SWL. Toy Story Land would make more sense out that way tying it in with TSMM but DHS will already have this and we don't need a duplicate. I wouldn't expect a third gate anytime soon since Disney still has a lot of property it would have to buy to make that happen.
I continue to wonder why the DCA Tower of Terror is not on a randomized program yet. It was built AFTER the Florida version was already doing new, if not totally randomized things, so it has to be able to do so. They must be waiting for a "lull" in park projects when they can use it as something new to draw attendance.
On your note about "The California version not holding a candle to the Florida version", I have to disagree. While the WOW factor of the horizontal movement in Florida is very cool, especially the first few times, I feel that entire area is wasted. They could do such cool things there yet all you see are some floating eyes and a clock. The California version tells the story much more coherently and I find I don't miss the horizontal portion at all. I DO like some of the things in the drop tower they have out in Florida and again wonder why they are not in the tower here.
As for a Guardian's overlay it seems random and far-fetched, the ramblings of a Marvel fanboy.
Then there was the CM telling a guest that Star Tours would become Ironman. :/
Honestly since DCA is such a hodgepodge of stuff that's only loosely 30s Hollywood at best (which I would argue has diminished over time even more as the park revamped and replaced stuff), I can sorta see the argument for a Marvel-themed area since it's the last of their recent several-billion dollar properties that doesn't really have a home.
That being said, despite my own dislike of the DCA Tower of Terror (which is so much inferior to the Florida version), I wouldn't replace it with Marvel-style GotG. An overlay sure, that actually might be fun to have on occasion just for something different. But permanently? Nah. Unless they're going to do away with the retro hollywood theme at DCA completely, Tower of Terror is about as close as you can get to capturing that feel imo.
What Disney really just needs to do is put out a ton of shell corporations and start buying up land somewhere for a new park if they want one outside of WDW, if they could somehow squire up enough land out in the mid-east US, I have no doubt a park there would lure plenty of people on over; I don't see Cali as an option due to prices/taxes, Oregon/Seattle is just too rainy, and anywhere more inland is kind of barren until you hit about Illinois really. That or they still have tons of acres of unused land in Florida, that could easily host another park too (though that doesn't solve the problem of the no Marvel thing out there, I bet they wish they could just tear up that contract Marvel made in the years before Disney bought em). Make it a combined Star Wars/Marvel one or something, though that's what Hollywood Studios should just turn into by now given how most things there are shuttered.
tldr; temporary overlay for GotG on Tower of Terror ala Nightmare Before Christmas could be fun, permanent would suck for any version.

Like Walt Disney himself, Rod Serling is an American treasure. Serling's genius is already under appreciated as is. Removing twilight Zone from ToT sure won't help.
