Splash closes and refurbishment notes

Today, May 30, is the final day of operation for Disneyland's Splash Mountain. Once the walls go up and the flume is drained, work will begin to re-imagine the mountain into a new ride based on The Princess and the Frog retheme. Tiana's Bayou Adventure is scheduled to open at Disneyland in late 2024. Work has already begun on the retheme of the Walt Disney World version of Splash Mountain, which closed in January this year. The new ride is expected to open there first.

The Matterhorn Bobsleds is scheduled to reopen this week following its most recent refurbishment. The ride has been closed since mid-April.

Next week brings the start of a Fantasyland refurbishment impacting Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan's Flight. All three rides close next Monday, June 5. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and Alice in Wonderland will reopen on June 17, but Peter Pan's Flight will remain closed through June 30.

Over in Disney California Adventure, The Little Mermaid – Ariel's Undersea Adventure is also closed June 5 to 7 for a brief refurbishment.

Alice in Wonderland will close again after the Fouth of July holiday for additional work, with no reopening date yet published. The Disneyland Monorail and Soarin' Around the World also close on July 5. The refurbishment calendar is only published through July 10, so we don't know when any of these attractions will reopen.

Waiting for a summer discount?

If history repeats itself, watch for Disneyland to release a California resident discount sometime this week.

The 2022 3-day ticket offer provided two ticketing options—one valid only on weekdays, and a more expensive ticket valid any day of the week. Both tickets also came with the option to add the Genie+ service.

We'll update this space with the 2023 offer if one is released this week.

Grad Nite week

This is the busiest Grad Nite week of the season, with four Grad Nites scheduled this week. The after-hours events take place on Tuesday May 30, Wednesday May 31, Friday June 2, and Sunday June 4.

This is also a big week for middle-school class trips, so prepare for school crowds through Thursday, and again next Monday through Thursday.

You can now modify your park reservation

You can now modify an existing reservation without canceling it first. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix

Disneyland has given absolutely no indication that the park reservation system will be modified as is taking place at Walt Disney World, and day guests and Magic Key holders alike are still required to make a reservation before each visit. However, the company did at least make it easier for visitors to manage their reservations, adding the ability to modify a park reservation to the Ticket and Reservation Details page.

With this new tool, ticket holders can look at the calendar and see future availability before canceling their theme park reservation. Instead, you select the new date you plan to visit, and the system transfers the reservation. This tool allows you to modify the reservations for your entire party at once, which means no risk of canceling all of your reservations only to find out there isn't room for your entire family on your new preferred day. While this isn't as much of an issue for solo visitors managing one reservation at a time, it's a nice tool for families or groups managing larger parties.

Here's a look at how the new process works: From the Ticket and Reservation Details page, select "Make or Modify Park Reservations." That brings you to the Upcoming Theme Park Reservations screen (shown below), which details the reservations you hold or which are linked to you.

Selecting "Make or Modify Reservations" takes you to a screen showing your current reservations. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix

For each reservation, you can opt to modify or cancel that reservation. Selecting Modify Reservation takes you to a screen where you choose which member(s) of your party to include in the change.

If you have more than one person in your party, you can opt to modify everyone's reservations at once, or just for one person. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix

Once you specify your party, you see a calendar for the next 90 days that shows you what dates are available. Select the new date you wish to visit, and choose your starting theme park.

The next screen shows a calendar of available dates for your ticket or pass type. Select the date and your starting park to proceed. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix

After you pick your new reservation date, you review your changes to make sure everything is in order.

The next screen gives you one last opportunity to make sure you've selected the right party and dates before confirming your choice. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix

The system then displays your new reservation details and confirmation number, and will also generate an email to confirm the change.

2023

  • Star Wars month – May 1 to June 4, 2023
  • Grad Nite – May 30, and 31; June 2, 4, 7, 9, 14, and 16

2024

  • 2024 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend – January 11–14, 2024. Registration is full for all in-person events.
    • 2024 Disneyland 5K – Friday, January 12
    • 2024 Disneyland 10K – Saturday, January 13
    • 2024 Disneyland Half Marathon – Sunday, January 14

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts and Promotions

Disneyland prices as of October 11, 2022.

Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.

Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.
