History and Trivia

  • At this location: Who Wants to Be a Millionaire - Play It!, a recreation of the once-huge TV game show occupied the space before Toy Story. Park guests competed to get down to the hot seat where they could win pins and other prizes up to a Disney cruise if they answered all 15 questions. That attraction opened in 2001 and lasted until 2006.
  • Prior to that these soundstages were used to showcase actual movie and TV production tasks (remember, at one point there was an attempt to have the park also be a working movie/TV studio) and at the Walt Disney Theater you could see film clips of upcoming movies. Movies promoted in this way included The Lion King, Pocahontas, Toy Story, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Evita, George of the Jungle, Flubber, and Armageddon.

    • A patent: Read the official patent filing for some of the technology powering the ride.
