History and Trivia

  • At this location: When the park opened in 1989, this theater was used to show trailers of upcoming Disney movies to park guests just finishing the Studio Walking Tour. In May 25, 1990, a stage show called Here Come the Muppets opened using the same character costumes that could be seen walking around the park. This show was supposed to be just the beginning of an increasingly close relationship (if not outright merger) between Walt Disney Company and the Jim Henson Company. Unfortunately, Jim Henson died just a week before this show opened and the relationship between the two companies soon soured. The show lasted only sixteen months to September 2, 1991. MuppetVision 3-D had opened that previous May, making this show somewhat redundant. The Voyage of the Little Mermaid was the next show in the theater.
  • The Attraction's History: The show remains essentially unchanged from when it opened in 1992.
  • Other Trivia:
    • Ursula is big: The Ursula puppet used in the show is 12 feet tall and almost 10 feet wide.
