Wilderness Lodge

Wilderness Lodge, nestled in the woods southeast of the Contemporary Resort and west of Fort Wilderness Campground (with which it is sometimes confused) is a beautiful edifice. Visitors will be struck struck by the smell of Michigan's upper peninsula—pine trees and smoke from a fireplace. The building itself is a log lodge, reminiscent of those built by the national park service in the early 1900s. The lobby is huge with a fireplace in one corner and the check-in desk is services by park rangers...everything looks, feels, and smells like the Western national parks!

The crowning touch of this resort is the mineral spring that bubbles from the ground inside the lobby. The water trickles outside, into a small brook that feeds a natural rock spring pool. It looks like Yosemite here, but it's in the middle of Florida. A geyser blows off steam regularly (even more faithfully than Old Faithful) between the pool and Bay Lake, but of course, the Disney magic keeps the geyser from blowing off steam during the night time hours when guests are trying to sleep.

Owner's Locker

Transportation Information

On foot: Walking to other Walt Disney World destinations is discouraged.

Bus: Busses are available for the four theme parks and Downtown Disney. Once to any of those you can transfer to busses for other locations.

Dining

Artist Point— This fine dining location is dinner only, and serves dishes from the Pacific Northwest with an extensive wine list that also features products of the region.

Whispering Canyon— Laid-back dining with an emphasis on meat and quantity. The staff keeps things interesting with activities for kids and giving other guests a hard time, all in good fun of course.

Other dining — Territory Lounge serves drinks and light appetizers. Roaring Fork Snacks is a quick-service counter open until midnight and home of the resorts refillable mugs.

Entertainment and Amenities

A Conversation with a Magic Kingdom Stem Train Specialist — This periodic offering is an opportunity for guests of the Villas at Wilderness Lodge to meet and learn from one of Disney World's steam train experts. Held in the Iron Spike Room, check schedule information when you check-in to see if it will be offered during your stay.
Electric Water Pageant — A show on the lake every evening involving light-decorated barges. Visible from the dock at around 9:30 every evening.
Old Faithful — Every hour, on the hour (from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.) a geyser shoots water more than 100 feet into the air.
Wilderness Lodge Flag Family — Every day one family of guests will be selected as the "Flag Family" and assist in raising the flags on the roof of the main building.
Wonders of the Lodge — A tour of the hotel offered four days a week at 9:00 a.m.

Other entertainment: Bike and surry rentals are available. Inside the lodge you will find the Iron Spike game room with activities and a video arcade. Several different personal cruises are offered at the resort's marina on Bay Lake.
