History and Trivia

The Event's History: The Candlelight Processional was the brainchild of Charles Hirt (1912-2001), the legendary choir instructor at the University of Southern California School of Music and it has been on the Disneyland calendar every year since. Though the annual performances moved to the Fantasyland Theater from 1998 through 2002, the essence of it has remained unchanged. In 1971 the tradition grew to include Walt Disney World, first at Magic Kingdom and then moving to Epcot in 1994.
